The Beast

At the tender age of twenty-one
I went to Viet Nam
And there I saw a thing or two
Aside from bullets and bombs.

I saw the horror that is war
I saw what I had to see.
I saw the terror that is Man.
I saw that beast in me.

I wonder now what I should do
When things I see offend me.
Do I close my eyes and look away
Or call on the beast within me?
